I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes.
Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something.
So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.
Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it.
Make your mistakes, next year and forever.
Happy New Year everyone! What is your new year’s resolution for 2014? Every year I wish for a better year, to get fit and healthy, to grow in my career, to spend more time with my family, but do all of these really mean anything? No, because I was too afraid of change and facing my weakness. This year I stumbled on a quote by Neil Gaiman that really resonates with me. I need to start making new mistakes and face my fears! I need to stop worrying that the things I do aren’t good enough or aren’t perfect (because I’m a perfectionist and if things aren’t turning out according to plan, I spend too much time on it or give up). I need to learn that by making mistakes, I will learn from them (hopefully) and I will get better (one day…).
So this is it. This is something I have never done before. I fairly new at sewing but I want to make more things and I want to learn that they don’t have to be perfect. I want to make more things for my daughter, my family, my friends, my home, and myself. And I want to share my journey with the world. *Gasp* This is such a scary thought and already I’m feeling so exposed but I want to stop worrying that I’m not good enough. So this is it. I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.
Welcome 2014. Bring it on!
